Introduction
At the Artifacts of Hollywood & Music auction organized by Kruse GWS Auctions on September 4, the jumpsuit (overall) with a white cape of the late star Elvis Presley fetched more than 1 million USD.
The organizers said the above price set a “world record”, but did not explain in detail. Brigitte Kruse – head of Kruse GWS Auctions shared: “Elvis Presley’s performance outfit not only set a world record auction price, but also affirmed the respect and love people have for the music legend.” Before going on the auction floor, the outfit had been in a personal collection for more than 30 years.

The jumpsuit with cape was designed by Bill Belew. Elvis Presley wore it during his first live performance at Madison Square Garden, New York, in 1972. The design later became one of the most iconic and photographed stage costumes of the “King of Rock & Roll’s” career.
Many other memorabilia were also successfully sold at the auction, including: a jar containing locks of Elvis Presley’s hair (selling for $72,500), a racing helmet worn by the late singer in the film Viva Las Vegas ($23,750), a tailcoat tuxedo Elvis Presley wore in the film Frankie & Johnny ($75,000), a pair of performance boots ($28,750), the sheet music for the song ’68 Comeback Special ($15,000), a Schick electric razor ($3,000), and an eagle-shaped belt designed by Mike McGregor ($25,000). During his illustrious career, Elvis Presley performed four sold-out concerts at Madison Square Garden. Following these events, the “king of rock and roll” released his live album, Elvis: As Recorded at Madison Square Garden. The album peaked at number 11 on the US Billboard Top 200 pop albums chart, achieved three platinum certifications in 1999, and sold over 3 million copies. It is considered one of the best-selling live albums of the 1970s.
