Introduction
“You Will” is a compelling country song performed by Patty Loveless, featured on her 1993 album Only What I Feel. The track was penned by songwriters Mary Ann Kennedy, Pam Rose, and Randy Sharp, and was originally recorded by Anne Murray in 1990 as the title track of her album.
In 1992, prior to recording her version of “You Will,” Loveless faced a significant health challenge. She was diagnosed with an aneurysm on one of her vocal cords, a condition that required surgical intervention in October of that year. Following a nine-week recovery period, Loveless and her producer (and husband) Emory Gordy Jr. returned to the studio to re-record material, including “You Will,” as her vocal tone had changed post-surgery.
Released as the third single from Only What I Feel on November 11, 1993, “You Will” marked Loveless’s resurgence in the country music scene. The song enjoyed considerable success, charting for 23 weeks on the Billboard Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart and peaking at number six during the week of February 19, 1994.
The success of “You Will” contributed to the platinum certification of Only What I Feel, underscoring Loveless’s triumphant return to the music industry after her health challenges. The album also produced other notable singles, including the number one hit “Blame It on Your Heart” and the top ten “How Can I Help You Say Goodbye.”
Patty Loveless’s rendition of “You Will” stands as a testament to her resilience and artistry, capturing the emotional depth and authenticity that have become hallmarks of her celebrated career.
